Using economics to inform better decisions

We are a specialist environmental economics consultancy with particular expertise in supporting decision-makers by using the next generation of cost-benefit analysis and decision support methods.

About us

Orbital Applied Economics was founded in 2021 by Matt Georges, who believes that economics should be grounded in data as well as theory. His approach emphasises collaboration between economists and scientists across various disciplines, with the goal of enhancing human decision-making through accessible and effective tools.

Our services focus on assessing trade-offs, reducing uncertainty, and equipping teams with the tools to apply economic thinking effectively.

Cost-benefit analysis

We develop and apply CBA models to help organisations evaluate trade-offs and make informed decisions.

  • Create, update and review CBA models
  • Apply CBA models to a wide range of environmental problems
  • Produce clear and concise reports and presentations summarising CBA findings
  • Work with clients to embed CBA models into business-as-usual processes

Quantitative decision analysis

We create data-driven models to reduce uncertainty and improve decision-making.

  • Facilitate goal-setting workshops to clarify objectives and map how inputs become outcomes.
  • Build and quantify decision models to estimate both tangible and ‘hard-to-measure’ benefits.
  • Define success criteria and gather data to reduce uncertainty where it matters.
  • Deliver actionable advice and training so clients can effectively use quantitative decision analysis.

Training

We simplify economics, making it practical and accessible for professionals.

  • The basics of economics for non-economists
  • Theory and application of environmental economics
  • Theory and application of cost-benefit assessment
  • Theory and application of quantitative decision analysis
